Itineraries

Day 1

Wadumunnegedara

On arrival at Colombo Airport, you and your family will be met by one of our representatives and driven to your accommodation in the countryside. Horathapola Estate is an old planter's house set in the middle of a coconut plantation, surrounded by paddy fields.

Day 2

Sigiriya

After breakfast, you will be driven to Sigiriya in Sri Lanka's Cultural Triangle. Enjoy a leisurely afternoon before taking to the water for a sunset kayak experience on a nearby lake. It is a beautiful and fun way to end the day.

Day 3

Sigiriya

This morning you have time at leisure, maybe to enjoy the hotel's pool. Later, go on a game drive to one of the three national parks in the area. Look out for elephants, sambar deer, monkeys and a wide variety of birdlife, maybe even a turtle or crocodile near the water.

Day 4

Sigiriya

Climb together to the top of Sigiriya Rock this morning, learn fun facts and enjoy the views. You'll also visit the Dambulla Caves to see fascinating frescoes and the cheeky monkeys who call it home.

Day 5

Passikudah

Leave Aliya and the Cultural Triangle today, to travel to the beautiful beaches of the East Coast. Passikudah is your destination for the next three nights.

Day 6

Passikudah

Enjoy your day on the palm-fringed crescent of Kalkudah Bay. Swim, borrow bikes to cycle or relax by the pool. Play volleyball, Pétanque or have a hands-on cookery class.

Day 7

Passikudah

Visit a local fishing village or take a guided hike up Kudumbimalai Rock if you want to do some exploring today. The Shanti spa is there for tired parents, or borrow a book from the hotel's library.

Day 8

Kandy

After breakfast, you will be driven to Kandy. The drive passes rice paddies and farmland which is ideal for spotting wildlife along the way. On arrival, you will have the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 9

Kandy

Today you will explore Kandy, learning about the vibrant Temple of the Tooth. You might like to take a walk around Kandy Lake, which is surrounded by local stalls and markets. Later, have fun on a food and market walk which takes in the sights, sounds and tastes of the city.

Day 10

Kegalle

Leave Kandy and travel to Kegalle and to Rosyth Estate, your home for the next three nights. Enjoy the warm welcome and spend the afternoon walking around the estate and gardens.

Day 11

Kegalle

Rosyth gives a lot back to the local community, including school meals multiple times a week. Your children may be able to meet some similarly-aged children or even share breakfast with them before the school day starts. Rosyth also helps local ladies earn a higher income by training them in the artisan tea trade. Learn all about tea from plucking to processing and pouring.

Day 12

Kegalle

Your last day in Sri Lanka and at Rosyth. You may want to relax by the pool, enjoy the board games or wander the estate finding bugs and butterflies. You could cycle to a local temple or enjoy a cookery experience as a family to take some recipes home with you.
