Itineraries
Day 1
Barcelona, Spain
On a Barcelona cruise, you’ll see why the Catalan capital is Spain’s most-visited city. Set between the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains, Barcelona offers experiences and sights for all, from classical and modern art to daring architecture, from innovative design to ancient history, plus world-class gastronomy (covering local cuisine and fine dining) and an enviable coastline.
Marvel at Antoni Gaudí’s Sagrada Família or his surreal Park Güell, both part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site encompassing seven of the architect’s works across the city.
Learn about local history on a Barcelona cruise by walking down famed La Rambla, lined with emblematic buildings like La Boqueria market, dating back to the 1800s, and the opulent Gran Teatre del Liceu opera house.
Day 2
Marseille, France
Marseille is where Provence comes crashing into the sea: bustling city and beautiful coastline, Belle Époque facades and bold street art, Provençal and multicultural traditions. France’s oldest city is also its most original, appealing to both first-time and seasoned visitors, as you’ll discover on a Marseille cruise.
Snap photos of wooden boats lining Le Vieux-Port harbour and hop between cafes, restaurants and bars – grab an outside table to watch the world go by and appreciate the gentle hubbub. Marvel at limestone fjords in Calanques National Park, home to Château d’If.
Day 3
Genoa (Portofino), Italy
Gateway to the Italian Riviera, the Port of Genoa is one of the most important (and one of the largest) in Italy, a strategic harbour since ancient times.
Cruises to Genoa offer the chance to explore its many sights, including Genoa Aquarium, designed by architect Renzo Piano, and the city’s picturesque Boccadasse district, a lakeside fishing village. Genoa excursions also offer the opportunity to taste signature dishes made from fresh ingredients, such as pesto Genovese and focaccia.
On a Genoa cruise, guests can also admire one of Italy’s most beautiful stretches of coastline or an excursion to the UNESCO-listed Cinque Terre. Its five fishing villages, perched on steep cliffs, offer superb sea views, small seafood restaurants, and a tableau of townhouses.
Day 4
Naples, Italy
Crammed with ancient architecture, cathedrals and churches, it’s no wonder the Historic Centre of Naples is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dip into it all on a Naples cruise, starting with a visit to medieval Castel Nuovo and its view to Mount Vesuvius, looming over the Bay of Naples.
Afterwards, be swept up in the busy streets of Spaccanapoli, lined with artisan workshops, before delving into the city’s past in underground catacombs, located in Rione Sanità. Visit world-famous museums, such as the Capodimonte, with its collections of Baroque and Renaissance art, including works by Titian and Caravaggio. And then there’s the food, from Neapolitan pizza to fine dining.
Better yet, combine your Naples cruise with an excursion to Pompeii, the archaeological site that lay buried for 1,700 years following the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD.
Today, visitors can walk the cobbled streets and admire the mosaics adorning the villas of the town’s wealthiest families.
Day 5
Messina, Italy
Marvellous Messina, sitting pretty on Sicily’s Ionian Coast, is the ultimate Italian treat. This MSC Mediterranean Cruises destination is noted for its natural beauty and historical sites, including cathedrals, monuments, and museums. Travel south to see stunning sea towns and villages, such as Taormina or visit the famed Mount Etna, an active volcano and a focal point in Greek Mythology.
Day 6
Valletta, Malta
The Maltese archipelago is a region of remarkable landscapes, historical architecture, and three UNESCO World Heritage Sites. On the island of Malta, an MSC Mediterranean Cruises destination, cities such as the baroque Valletta and the medieval Mdina unveil the island's ancient past. Voted European Capital of Culture for 2018, Valetta is home to 16th-century buildings, enlightening museums, and a stunning waterfront promenade. Every year, the city plays host to a number of important village feasts and a colourful carnival.
Day 7
At Sea
Doha, the vibrant capital of Qatar, seamlessly blends modern skyscrapers with rich cultural heritage. Visitors can explore the stunning Museum of Islamic Art, stroll along the picturesque Corniche, or immerse themselves in the lively atmosphere of Souq Waqif. The city's rapidly growing skyline is matched by luxurious shopping malls, world-class restaurants, and a booming arts scene. With its warm hospitality and unique blend of tradition and innovation, Doha offers an unforgettable experience for travelers.
Day 8
Barcelona, Spain
On a Barcelona cruise, you’ll see why the Catalan capital is Spain’s most-visited city. Set between the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains, Barcelona offers experiences and sights for all, from classical and modern art to daring architecture, from innovative design to ancient history, plus world-class gastronomy (covering local cuisine and fine dining) and an enviable coastline.
